Lunch at Aubergine, Fort Bonifacio

Hi! So this is my first blog! It's quite exciting!!! I've been wanting to do this for awhile now, but just never got to it.
Finally, last Sunday, I had lunch with my family and we decided to try a new place we've been hearing about, Aubergine. The meal was pretty good, but only until the dessert did I think of taking a picture and starting this blog.

The dessert I had was Apple Tart Tatin with basil ice cream, which is basically an upside down apple pie with the crunchy crust on the bottom and apples on top. This dessert was pretty good...the crispness of the apple was just right. The pastry on the bottom was holding up pretty good also, not too soft nor soggy. The apple chip that was used for a garnish was probably my favorite part of the dish. It was thin and crispy...I made it once before and it needs to be in a low temperature oven for a few hours to make. It's details like this that I like. The basil ice cream, however, was just so-so. When I first tasted it, I didn't really like it, the flavor is quite strong. When eaten with the apple, the taste becomes milder, but it took quite a few spoons for to me accept the combination of apple and basil. The whipped cream is something I could do with out also, since there is already Anglaise on the plate plus the ice cream....that's plenty of cream for me. Overall, I liked the dish. I used to be a pastry cook, so I find that not many places have decent desserts and this place seems to be pretty good.

Something I loved though was the plate! Almost every dish we ordered came on a different kind of plate and they were all beautiful. I think I would probably dine at Aubergine again, next time I will remember to take pictures of the other dishes as well.
